Truman Capote dedicated six years to his labour of love. It was a novel based on the brutal murder of the Clutter family in Kansas. Determined to fully understand the murderers and their effects on the town he recruited the help of lifelong friend Harper Lee. During the six years he became friends with some of the townsfolk, but he also developed a deep relationship in prison with murderer Perry Smith. So deep was the relationship that the night the two murderers were executed, they say three people died.
