In 1921, Abraham Tuschinski opened Tuschinski Theatre after 2 years of constructing. He used to be a tailor from Poland and was on his way to the United States in 1904, but he eventually stayed in Rotterdam where he opened multiple theatres.
In 1916 he wanted to start something really special in Amsterdam along with his brothers in law Herman Gerschtannowitz and Herman Ehrlich.
"Amsterdam has many theatres, but when I build one it has to be better than all the others. As big as a temple and fair as a palace, such a theatre Europe hasn't seen before and which even makes the spoilt Amsterdam public look astonished."
This urge for originality and astonishment was always priority 1 for Tuschinski Theatre: imitating other theatres was not done for Abraham Tuschinski.
Under Tuschinski's management, the theatre was never finished. You can see this in the interior of Tuschinski Theatre for it has been through many changes and many remarkable elements have been added.
The jewish Tuschinski was eventually murdered in Auschwitz on the 17th of September 1942. As a tribute to the creater of the most beautiful theatre of the Netherlands, Pathé has named this new bar to him: Bar Abraham.
