Weapons expert and billionaire playboy Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) is kidnapped by terrorists while demonstrating a new super-weapon in the Middle-East. In order to break free of his captors, he builds a metal suit that turns him into a fighting machine. Once home, safe and with access to his enormous funds, he improves upon his crude costume to become the hero: Iron Man.
