When neurotic theatre director Caden Cotard receives a bursary he is prompted by his soon-to-be estranged wife to create something more real than his recent revival of Death of a Salesman and so hires a warehouse and a small army of actors in a project that soon grows completely out of control. With distractions in life other than his own loneliness Caden creates a life-sized replica of New York City inside the warehouse and in a story that spans decades tries to get a grip on this false reality of his own making.
