Lars is an extremely shy young man living in a small town but he finds it difficult to develop relationships with his neighbours, colleagues and family. When Lars buys a sex-doll on the itnernet and introduces it as his girlfriend to his brother and sister-in-law, the local doctor is called in. The doctor is convinced that, excepting this single delusion Lars, has a fully functioning personality that threatens no-one. He persuades the entire town to ignore his patient's loving and meaningful relationship with the doll in the hope that this space will allow Lars the opportunity to work through his problem.
