Frank and April Wheeler are a young couple whose conformity to the expectations of 1950s America leaves them numbed to both their own dreams and to one-another. When April comes up with a plan to save Frank from his soul-destroying job fresh air is temporarily breathed into their marriage, but it all seems too good to last.
