Inge and Werner have been happily married for 30 years, both partners have children from previous relationships, and with their lives entering into the twilight years of retirement the marriage has now become nothing more than a formulaic passionless routine. One day when Inga, working as a seamstress, delivers a pair of trousers to a client (Karl), she impulsively embarks upon a sordid and hot blooded affair. For Inge her growing desires for Karl sends her on an overdue discovery of self-determination; for Kal their affair offers him up one last chance of happiness; but the repercussions of the pairs new found joy will inevitably have an everlasting affect on Inge's husband Werner...changing their idyllic but monotonous lives forever.
