Anthony Swofford, a third-gereration soldier from California, is twenty, as Gulf War suddenly breaks out. His troop is immediately sent to Saudi Arabia to prepare for war.Most of the young Marines feel rootless and bored, while waiting for an invisible enemy. Dust, fear, exhaustion, frustration increasingly make the mood tenser. Yet, very strong friendships arise amoung the young soldiers.
