In a hospital in 1920s California, Alexandra, a little girl recovering from a fall, meets the mysterious Roy, an injured young stunt man nursing a broken heart. The two soon strike up a close friendship and to remove her from the boredom of her recovery, Roy captivates Alexandra with the exotic adventures of the Masked Bandit and his group of mystical accomplices as they take on the evil Lord Odious. Entranced, Alexandria weaves real characters from her family and the hospital into his stories, blurring reality and fantasy. As Roy's stories become more engrossing and his darker intentions reveal themselves, Alexandria's innocence and unassuming love reignite his hope and will to recover.
