When sports writer Joe Warr's beloved wife dies suddenly he has to come to terms with his loss while caring for his six-year old son. He is overwhlemed by the challenge: working as a single parent, dealing with his own grief and establishing a normal relationship with his son. As his teenage son from another marriage joins him, Joe adopts a policy that eveything goes which nearly results in a disastrous. This failure together with feelings for another lone parent complicate the situation to a point that Warr finds hard to deal with.
