In pre-war Italy, Mussolini, the man who would be the Duce, an ardent socialist who intends to lead Italy towards an anti-clerical, anti-monarchial, socially emanciapted future is bankrolled by an idealistic admirer and sometime lover who sells everything to finance the newspaper that would become the nucleus of the forthcoming Fascist party. Meanwhile she gives birth to a son who is removed from the annals of history as Mussolini rose to power.
