Paathshaala examines the greed and injustice engulfing the Indian education system, focussing on Swaraswati Vidya Mandir School, in Mumbai's suburbs, where new English teacher Rahul is settling in well with pupils and teachers alike. However, he soon realises that the school's director, Sharma, is up to no good, forcing parents to pay extra fees to enable their kids to join in with extracurricular activities. When the parents don't consent, their kids are punished and eventually the situation reaches crisis point amongst the miserable and oppressed students.
